John Anderson

John Anderson

We are saddened to report that Country Music Hall of Famer John Anderson has passed away at the age of 71 according to his Facebook page:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and best friend.

To the world, he was a gifted country music singer whose voice and songs touched countless lives. To us, he was so much more. He was the heart of our family, the one who made us laugh, loved us fiercely, and made every ordinary moment feel special.

We are completely heartbroken.

His music will live on, but for us, his greatest legacy will always be the love he gave his family and the memories we will carry with us forever.

Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this unimaginable loss.

As we always do, here is a collection of remembrances being posted by his peers.  Check back often as we update it throughout the night.

  • Bellamy Brothers – Our hearts are heavy over the loss of our friend John Anderson. There was only one John—an unmistakable voice, a true country music original, and someone we were proud to call a friend.  We’ll always treasure our time on the Friends and Heroes Tour with John, Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins. Recording “No Country Music for Old Men” with John meant so much to us, and those words hit a little harder today.  John also sang at David’s Songwriters Hall of Fame induction, giving our family another memory we’ll hold close forever.  We’re grateful for the music, the friendship and the years we shared. Sending our love and prayers to his family and everyone who loved him.  Rest easy, John. We’ll miss you, brother.
  • Big Kenny Alphin – John Anderson has left for Heaven. What an amazing human being and one of the coolest most iconic voices in country music ever. I loved to hear him sing. I loved every chance I got to spend time with him. What a legend. Prayers up for his family and all who loved him.
  • Blake Shelton – There is too much for me to say about John Anderson in just a statement. I am sick and I am stunned. But I am a very lucky man. I got the opportunity to find out that my hero wasn’t just the guy I hoped he’d be. He was so much more than that. John was my friend. I got to see him last Sunday and I don’t even know why but I told him I loved him. That is what fills my heart in this moment. My love and prayers go out to John’s family. This one really hurts.
  • Brady Seals – Such sad news tonight 🙁 John Anderson was a huge musical inspiration and influence on me. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him on his bus during the Hot Apple Pie days. What a cool dude he was. So kind…and funny! Man, I hate to hear this…He’ll be dearly missed
  • Brandon Rhyder – John Anderson… I have always been a fan of his because he was so unique. An incredible talent. Sad to hear this news of his passing tonight. Seminole Wind, Swingin’, Straight Tequila Nights… Some of the very best of country music in my lifetime. I loved his version of Long Black Vail. A Troubadour! I will blare it loud and proud in memory tonight around my campfire
  • Bryan White – Man I’m heartbroken to hear this very sad news. John was an icon and an original. No one like him. Incredible songs and no guessing who it was when he came on the radio. The 1st song I ever learned on guitar was “Swingin.” I’m proud to say John was my friend. He was a gentle kind soul. His last text to me was about us trying to get on the books to go turkey hunting and to write a song. I’ll cherish those texts and time I got to spend with him on and off the stage. Rest easy my friend.  John Anderson 1954 – 2026
  • Casey Donahew – Rest easy!!
  • Charlie Daniels Jr. – The Daniels family is saddened to hear of the sudden passing of John Anderson. Mom, Chelsea and I all attended Sunday’s Medallion Ceremony at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and saw him from a distance, so this comes as a complete shock Our prayers go out to his family, his friends and his many many fans. Rest in Peace, John.
  • Chris Janson – John Anderson was a hunting buddy, fishing buddy, mentor, friend, brother, and fellow Bass Pro Man. Truly a GREAT guy, and a real outlaw. The first picture here on the plane we had just left a great fishing trip in Islamorada, and John was telling me stories about Mack Vickery and Merle Kilgore. It was awesome. He was The realest of the real. Rest easy my friend, and thank you for all the Happy Times and days in the field. Absolutely NOBODY, will ever fill John’s shoes. Me, Kelly, JJ, Georgia and the rest of our family love you dearly, John. Keep on Swingin, and i’m Glad that Jesus gets to welcome The Black Sheep of The Family.
  • David Frizzell – Prayers to John’s family…
  • Gene Watson – We are deeply saddened to hear that John Anderson has passed away. He was as kind hearted as he was talented. A great man and a huge loss to Country Music.
  • Jason Michael Carroll – Rest in peace John Anderson . I’m grateful for all the memories of seeing and playing with you at the Grand Ole Opry and will always cherish your kindness towards me as well as the music you gave us all.
  • John Rich (1st post) – I’ve just learned that my favorite country artist of all time, and a man I called “Uncle John” for the past 20 years has passed away. The great and unmatched John Anderson…He loved Jesus, and his family and his country. He was a massive influence on me in more ways that I can count. I love you, Uncle John.
  • John Rich (2nd post) – Love ya John A…you were a hero to me, and many others. I bet Jesus just handed you a golden Gibson and asked you to sing him a few. Till I see you again, we’ll keep your memory and music alive.
  • Larry the Cable Guy (in response to John Rich) – Oh no!! John this is sad to hear. The pride of Apopka Florida. As country as it gets. I opened for him and Tanya Tucker in Ft Lauderdale once at an outdoor amphitheater in the late 80’s and he showed up like 15 minutes late because he was out fishing in the swamp and lost track of the time! He got out of the SUV in all camo covered in mud, showered, went out and killed it! So many great songs. “I wish I coulda been there” one of my favorite. God Bless the black sheep of the family, John Anderson. RIP
  • Nancy Jones – I am in shock. Just Sunday, John and I were at the Country Music Hall of Fame, laughing and sharing funny George stories and reminiscing about all the wonderful memories we’ve had together. We even took photos together, and now he’s gone. My heart is broken. I’m hurting so much for Jamie. I love them both dearly, and I will forever cherish those memories.
  • Shenandoah – SAD TO HEAR OF THE PASSING OF JOHN ANDERSON. We were with him earlier this summer at a show in Florida.
  • Tim McGraw – I was talking with John Sunday night at the HOF ceremony. He was in such good spirits. We talked, we laughed, we sang his songs that I loved so much together, just goofing off. I am completely heartbroken by his passing. There will never be a stylist in music, any music, that was so defining as his. It’s just devastating. All of our love goes out to his family and the country music community. He was and is one of the defining voices in country music. So great. I am completely shook.
